Movie #76 Frozen

Frozen is a 2010 film directed by Adam Green.  He is best known for a series of horror pictures; Hatchet and Hatchet II.  Frozen is yet another mainly single location film.  2010 had several of these films including Buried and 127 Hours.  I would say that Frozen ranks up there with both of these pictures for me.

It is a little campy, but I would not call that a detriment.  Green took his time and set up the scenario masterfully.  There was great, non-forced character development.  He knew when to toss out the horror platitudes and when to insert them.

Frozen is about a college age trio.  A boyfriend and girlfriend and the boy's best friend.  They are on a weekend ski trip.  They bribe the lift guy for one last run down the hill as the resort is closing for the week.  They get a good deal up the lift when someone shuts the lift and the light off.  The trio is now forced to decide how to handle the situation.  They have some serious obstacles to overcome.  Blizzards and wolves to name a few.

This could have been another run-of-the-mill horror film, but because the script and director did such a great job in getting the viewers interested in the characters I had a vested interest in seeing them survive.  The entire cast was excellent.  I definitely want to see what this group does next. Frozen will go on my "Best Finds" list for 2010. I give Frozen a 4/5 stars.  Check out the Trailer Park to see for yourself.
